About the book:
November 1939 David J Powis was conscripted into the 2nd Devons Frontline Infantry.
Siege of Malta: He went on to survive the full siege of Malta.
Invasion of Sicily: David J Powis was on the initial infantry assault to invade Sicily. Following inland battles he was transferred into the 2nd Devons Intelligence section.
Invasion of Italy: He survived the initial assault and continued with his unit to advance along the coast.
D-Day:  6th June 1944, David J Powis was amongst the initial Infantry assault on Jig section Gold Beach, adjacent to where the film “Saving Private Ryan” is depicted. He and his unit advanced inland, sometimes having to go behind enemy lines.

This 65 page book tells the true horror of what it was like to be amongst the initial infantry assault on Jig Section, Gold Beach, 6th June 1944 D-Day.
After almost drowning, David J Powis and his unit were pinned down on the beach for considerable time. They managed to get off the beach by running across a minefield! As the author was in Infantry Intelligence, they often had to go ahead of the front line.
